Nomination forms are in and the voting day is fast approaching! Here are some of the Candidates and what they`re all about.
Joshua Jodoin
As Environment students we are continually reminded of the interconnectedness of everything. My platform focuses on the unity amongst Environment Student Society (ESS) board members, while also maintaining proper support for the subsidiary clubs in the faculty. All positions are open during this election and as a result there will be an incredible amount of revitalized energy on the board. I promise to provide the strong leadership necessary to harness and direct that energy toward positive goals. It is my belief that unity can only be achieved with a high degree of cooperation. The cooperation of past board members has enabled ESS to secure funding to renovate and improve the ESS spaces. I will keep some board members on the job of completing the renovation in order to maintain a forward momentum. This will enable a quick turnaround, which will allow Environment students to access their space as quickly as possible. I currently hold the Vice-Chair position for Waterloo Environment Student Endowment Fund (WESEF) and the Treasure position for my program’s club Environment Resource Studies Student Association (ERRSA). However, if elected I will devote my entire attention on ESS. Vote for unity, vote for cooperation, vote Joshua Jodoin for President.
Ellis Soepenberg
I am running for ESS President, because I want to recreate the community of the faculty of Environment. I would like to get more people interested in student politics and make them feel like the faculty is more of their home. I understand that student politics is not for everyone, but if I can get only a couple more people involved I will be very satisfied.
I feel like over the years the student associations have forgotten that they are there to help the students and create a better community for all students in the faculty. I want to bring this back to our faculty, since our programs might have drifted appart.
I also want to encourage more people to become part of ESS, rather then to have a select few to have opportunities within the council. I would do this by instating new positions within the council. One would be the interfaculty position, dealing within the different faculties on campus and the other would be Sports coordinator. Sports are very important to do besides your studies to simply relax, so I would like to get someone on the council to create intramural teams for the faculty.
So, besides from my ideas, why would you vote for me? I have had 2 years of experience on ESS already. As previous Social Director for 2 years I am the one who started the “infamous” ESS bomber nights. I have also held the positions of year rep & social director within the PSA (Planning Student Association) and I have been the WESEF vice chair. I am currently holding the position of President for PSA & I am the global representative for the Netherlands and Western Europe. I think that my involvement all over campus make me qualified to become the new ESS president, and I hope you do so too!
If you have any questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to email me or contact me over Facebook. My email is Ellisdoriensoepenberg@gmail.com.
Lee Voisin
Hello Environment! My name is Lee Voisin, and I am a candidate for the position of VP Internal for the upcoming ESS election. I am also running as a part of The UNIT. I am hoping to use my experience and initiative to be an active and dependable member of the executive board. As Vice President Internal, I would have two main goals:
1) Be an involved, supportive and approachable manager and resource for all the student associations.
2) Promote unity and school pride by being in regular communication with the other faculty student societies across campus to plan a “cross campus” event each term.
I believe my knowledge of the faculty, volunteer management and event planning experience will help me in achieving these goals. In the past I have held various roles on ERSSA as Treasurer and Vice President, where I gained experience with event planning and got familiar with ESS operations and Environment association president meetings. I have also held positions with the Federation of Students as a member of the St. Paul’s Federation Orientation Committee (FOC) in 2009 and am currently a member of the Environment FOC team for Orientation 2012. I have also held roles as the Ask Me Program Coordinator and Team Captain for Environment Orientation in the past. I want to encourage you to vote Lee Voisin for VP Internal in the upcoming ESS election to bring a dedicated, passionate and experienced member to the ESS executive council. I sincerely thank you for staying informed! Happy voting!
Nicholas Crockford
Having served as President, VP and first year rep on WEBS I have plenty of experience with student government and enjoy the opportunity to plan and run social and academic events. I’ve been a frosh leader and volunteered for many campus wide and faculty events such as the open houses offered for first-year students. As VP Internal I hope to increase the attendance at ESS planned events and to offer new support services to students. Such services may include study events and exam prep, arranging trips to conferences, and organizing student groups for academic competitions. I also hope to assist with the facilitation of more communication between faculty associations, thus creating more cross faculty events. Vote for me March 12-14 at www.vote.feds.ca or in person at the ESS office!!
Ashley O’Brien
Hi, I am Ashley O’Brien and I am running for your spring 2012 ESS Communications Director and as a team member of The UNIT – a team dedicated to unity and looking forward to improve student government in Environment. If elected, my job would be to act as the liaison between the ESS executive and the environment student population providing information on ESS activities, events and services through various media strategies, including social media. I would also act as chair to the marketing sub-committee within ESS.
I will work hard to better inform the ENV student body of all ESS events and business. I will also work towards new marketing strategies and improved communications made from the Environment Students’ Society. I vision a unified executive and more student involved decisions made by ESS. My top priority is to make all relative information completely accessible to the student body outside of executive and one of my first goals would be to work on communication outlets in EV3 and new environment student spaces.
I am running for this position because I want to be more involved in the ENV community and I hope to encourage others to do so as well. I feel that communication is the best way to get more students involved and informed and I want to be a part of that.
On March 12-14th vote Ashley O’Brien for your ESS Communications director and vote The UNIT for your ESS Executive. Vote for unity.
Kristopher Kolenc
My name’s Kris Kolenc, I’m in 1B Environment & Resource Studies, and I want to be your next ESS Communications Director! I’m sure you’ve heard it many times, “Communication is key.” In ESS, strong communication between the faculty, student groups, and the students themselves is vital in ensuring that everyone is aware of what is going on and that everyone feels connected to our community here at the University of Waterloo.
As Communications Director, I will be responsible for letting all environment students know about ESS’s events, services, and initiatives through the ESS website, various social media, and the poster boards around the environment buildings.
I believe I deserve your vote for several reasons. Firstly, I will be committed to and participate actively in my role as communications director and ensure that all media available to ESS is used more effectively and frequently. Next, I will strive for greater first-year participation. I am the only first-year student running in this election and I think that the top priority ESS needs to focus on in the future is getting more first-years involved in our community. Finally, I am super passionate about the Faculty of the Environment and all it has to offer, both academically and socially.
It would be my absolute pleasure to serve as your next ESS Communications Director. I am passionate about the position and will work hard to carry out my duties. So vote Kris Kolenc as your next Communications Director March 12-14 at www.vote.feds.ca or at the ESS office!!!
Stephanie Han
I have held a number of positions that make me qualified to plan awesome ESS events! My experience includes: Secretary of WEBS for 2 terms Organized a movie night and an end of term social in Spring 2010 – in addition to keeping excellent meeting minutes Prefect of Special Events in Grade 12 – yep, just like Harry Potter! Planned special events such as student assemblies, dances, an arts showcase, a bake sale, a silent auction, and a benefit concert for Free the Children Co-Captain of Sew What’s Cooking Club in Grade 11 Arranged and led weekly home ec activities for club members – yay crafts! In addition to my practical experience, I have various event-planning skills. I am: Super organized – I still use a (recycled) paper agenda… Hard working – no mediocre events on my watch, no sir! Dependable – I am a very punctual person. Outgoing – I’m not afriad to make awkward class announcements! An excellent baker – who doesn’t love baked goods? If elected as Social Director, I will ensure our faculty has THE best events! And, I promise there will be nicer decorations than brown and grey balloons, and way more snacks than cheese and crackers for eight people.

Victor Kloeze
Victor is a 3B Planning student, currently working as a Don at UWP. Some of his other qualifications to be WESEF Chair include: being a past WESEF board member and marketing director for WESEF; serving 4 terms as a PSA representative; and being a GB and Banana Crew member. ES, tell yo mama.
Dannielle Hyde
As a fourth year Environment & Business student, I’ve had a lot of time to be involved in our Faculty. Currently I am the President of WEBS and held this position last term as well. A lot of the responsibilities of the WESEF Chair are similar to those that the President has .My experience expands beyond just holding the President position within my program association. I also have been engaged with the Faculty and WESEF through opportunities like Orientation Week. I am looking forward to an opportunity that allows me to expand my experience and engage with both undergraduate and graduate students. This would be a unique situation that I haven’t had the chance to encounter yet. I look forward to hearing the wonderful proposals that students bring forth for the 2012-2013 term!
Vote for me because I’m awesome!
Danielle Ryan -VP Operations
Having been on ESS for two terms as the SAID Representative (Winter and Fall 2011), I am elated to have the opportunity to serve in a role with more responsibility and opportunity for growth as both a council and an individual. Over my time spent on ESS I have worked under two separate executive bodies each comprised of dedicated and hard working individuals. I have watched as ESS has worked to restructure and regenerate itself as a fully functioning and unified body. It is my goal that as your Vice President Operations I can continue to promote ESS as an active and supportive member of the Environment Undergraduate community. I look forward to the future, and am excited to begin my 2012/2013 terms in office.
